What is a cold storage room?

A cold storage room is an insulated space that keeps food and other temperature-sensitive goods within a defined temperature range so they can be stored for long periods without spoiling. It is used in the back-of-house areas of supermarkets, in production plants, in restaurant and hotel kitchens, in wholesale produce markets and at every link of the cold chain. The single most important factor determining shelf life is that the temperature and humidity of the storage environment are held without interruption.

Modular panel structure

Cold rooms are built by joining sandwich panels. The panels are manufactured in the factory and assembled on site. The main advantage of this structure is that the room can be dimensioned to the space available and, if needed, dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere. Wall, ceiling and floor panels work together to form an uninterrupted insulation shell, and the door is the most critical point of that shell.

Door types and access

Cold room doors are chosen as hinged or sliding according to how intensively they are used. In narrow aisles and at points with frequent entry and exit, a sliding door is preferred because it needs no swing clearance. In rooms where pallets and trolleys pass through, the door width is set according to the handling equipment in use.

Temperature classes and applications

Cold rooms are built in different temperature classes according to the product group to be stored. Fruit and vegetables, dairy products, meat and delicatessen goods, and frozen products each require a different temperature and humidity range. The cooling capacity of the room is determined by assessing volume, daily product intake, door opening frequency and ambient conditions together.

What to consider when choosing a cold storage room

The right room is not simply the one with the right dimensions; it is the one configured for the way it will be used. The following should be assessed together: the product group to be stored and the temperature range it requires, daily traffic in and out, the dimensions and column layout of the existing space, where the refrigeration system will be positioned, the internal volume needed for shelving and handling equipment, and ease of maintenance and cleaning.

Project-specific cold rooms from Yaşarsan

Producing commercial refrigeration equipment since 1988, Yaşarsan Soğutma does not limit cold rooms to standard sizes. Each room is engineered according to the dimensions of the space, the product group of the business and its working routine. Panel dimensioning, door type and position, and the selection of the refrigeration system are handled within a single project.

Installation, commissioning and afterwards

Production takes place at the plant in Konya; installation and commissioning are completed on site. Project-specific manufacturing, installation support and after-sales service apply to export projects in Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and Africa in exactly the same way as to domestic work. You can contact us with your dimensions and usage details for your cold storage requirement.
